My final post on Gluten & Wheat free pasta ends up with my favourite of all British gluten free pasta – Doves Farm Gluten & Wheat Free Spaghetti.
If you’ve been following my blog you’ll know that I did a series of 3 reviews on the most popular gluten and wheat free Spaghetti in the market. I started with Tesco’s Free From, followed by Sainsbury’s own gluten free brand to now end the series with Doves Farm pasta.
I cannot stress enough how good this pasta is, is like eating real pasta!
My benchmark for good pasta (industrially made pasta at least) is the famous Italian brand, Barilla. And their most famous shape is the Spaghetti No. 5, something comparable to Channel No. 5 perfume if you know what I mean!
Although Barilla has come out with a gluten and wheat free version of Spaghetti No. 5, unfortunately, you can’t get in the UK at least for now, despite being the TOP when it comes to gluten and wheat free pasta!!
However, Doves Farm Spaghetti makes a very good attempt to make REAL PASTA, and since I tried it this is the only pasta I buy!!
Texture
Apart from having the perfect thickness this pasta DOES NOT have the same amount of starch that Tesco’s and Sainsbury’s pasta have, meaning it does not turn into a mush when cooked. You would need to really overcook it for it to become a slush.
This means that when cooked what you get is a silky perfect string of pasta, which is what you really want from any pasta brand.
Cooking Time
Cooking time is approx 10 minutes depending on how aldente you like your pasta. And this is the time that you expect a good quality pasta to cook in.
Comparing it to Tesco’s brand which is cooked in less time than this, a sign that the product is not really good.
Versatility
To me having a pasta that can withstand different uses is crucial, specially when in the Gluten & Wheat Free world we don’t have many options, and this pasta can definitely be used for any type of pasta sauce.
I have used it for thin sauces such as a simple tomato sauce and for thick sauces such as Bolognese or vegetables pasta dishes.
Flavour and Ingredients
Flavour wise I think is pretty good, of course it will not have the same flavour as traditional pasta because is made from rice, but still a very palatable flavour.
The product is only made with Brown Rice Flour which I think is fantastic!! Not only because is a more natural product but also because is a lot easier to digest. I personally find corn quite heavy to digest, so having this pasta made from rice only to me is a bonus.
Price
This product is slightly more expensive than Tesco’s and Sainsbury’s brands but I think is worth the extra expense.
On the Doves Farm page they sell it at £2.49, but Sainsbury’s has it at £2.00.
Availability
You can get this pasta in Sainsbury’s, Doves Farm page and independent health food shops. If you live in Brighton I know that Infinity Foods sells it.

Conclusion
Doves Farm Gluten Free Pasta is a product that I definitely recommend hands down. If you can afford the extra £0.40/ £0.50 then is definitely worth it because the quality is excellent!!
I wonder whether they will bring out a white version of the product, maybe made with white rice? In any case, I think this is the best Gluten Free Pasta found in British supermarkets.
